Why the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene plate cannot be molded by thermoplastics

We should all know that UHMWPE sheet is a kind of polymer with a very high viscosity, in the form of powder, with a typical particle size range of 100-200 μm. Because of its high viscosity, UHMW-PE sheets cannot be processed by ordinary thermoplastic molding methods. Instead, high-temperature molding or plunger extrusion processes are used to melt and sinter ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene particles at high temperatures and pressures. Blanks or profiles, if necessary, followed by subsequent machining.

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene sheet can also be modified additives, its wear resistance and corrosion resistance make it unique in the chemical machinery. The use of ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene products instead of metal materials made of acid-resistant pumps, transmission machinery, water pumps, bushings, gaskets, gears, etc., not only greatly prolonged service life, but also greatly reduce the cost.

Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene plates can also be used as modified additives, added to other compounds to improve their chemical properties. If a vibratory rotary mixer is used, the melted ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene penetrates into the polypropylene, so that the amorphous ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene and the polypropylene form a complex continuous network structure, thereby improving the polypropylene elongation at break and Yield Strength. Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene can also be used as an impact strength cross-linking modifier, tensile strength modifier, and toughening enhancer for polypropylene.
